Malcolm X, the famous civil rights activist and leader, was born Malcolm Little on February 14, 1925, in Omaha, Nebraska. He changed his name to Malcolm X after converting to Islam at the age of 16 and later became known as "Malcolm X" in honor of his mentor, Elijah Muhammad.

In 1947, Malcolm X moved to New York City where he began working for a publishing company called The Nation. During this time, he met several influential figures such as Martin Luther King Jr., who became a close friend and mentor to him. In 1952, Malcolm X founded the Organization of Afro-American Unity (OAAU) with the goal of fighting against racial discrimination and inequality.

However, Malcolm X's views on race relations soon shifted when he encountered the harsh realities of racism and poverty in America. In 1955, he left the OAAU and joined the Nation of Islam under the leadership of Elijah Muhammad. This change in ideology led Malcolm X to adopt a more militant approach towards fighting against white supremacy and oppression.

Malcolm X's most famous speech, "I Am Not a Negro," was delivered in 1964 and it emphasized the need for black people to take control of their own lives and create their own political organization. He believed that the only way to achieve true equality and freedom was through self-education, self-defense, and self-reliance.

Despite facing numerous challenges and threats, Malcolm X continued to speak out against racism and fight for justice. He died on February 21, 1965, from complications related to bronchial pneumonia, but his legacy continues to inspire generations of activists and leaders today.
